I have no idea what actually happened in this film. Can someone explain what the end means?

I was gonna post the same topic bro. I gave this movie three because I don't know what the hell did I just watch? What the heck was going on the flashbacks. Was someone sexually abused and who was killed? Was Ingrid imagining everything that was happening to her, we were assumed to believe it? What the heck happened at the end, was her uncle really dead or alive? Too many questions..
shareIn a weird way I liked it. To me it looked like the Uncle was having an affair with the sister and maybe he ended up killing her husband because he didn't think he treated them right. The Uncle also said that Ingrid was very, very close to her mother ... Creepy much? I wonder if Ingrid faked her death. Remember that the Uncle said he would 'take care of her'. Since no one in the town really ever saw or met him. It would have been easy for him to just introduce himself at the end of the film. Also the Priest kept talking about Ingrid's sins during her 'funeral'.
I have a weird feeling the Uncle and Niece had a relationship and for some reason the Uncle made up this story so they could be together. Really, really strange film.
What I got at the end of this was that Ingrid's father died when she was young and the mother was devastated and Uncle Karl/her mother's brother took advantage of this and they had sex. It seemed the way he talked about his sister to the sheriff that he was way too fixated on her and basically had to keep being asked about Ingrid because he always went back to his sister. After Ingrid discovered her mother and uncle Karl in bed together her mother ran into the bathroom and slit her wrists because she truly realized she just slept with her own brother.
After her mother's death Ingrid was sent to an orphanage because her uncle probably felt guilty about his sister's death and also did not care for Ingrid at all. There were flashbacks where a man and a woman (i assume ingrid's mother and uncle karl) are standing close hugging and Ingrid as a child tries to join but the man pushes her away.
Ingrid was obviiously traumatized from her mother's death and seeing her and her Uncle in bed together. Which explains some of her sexual issues. Also after her father's death and being abandoned by her uncle she had even more issues with men. Any man that showed interest in her she did not trust.
Uncle Karl was not there at all on the farm with her, he only truly shows up at the end for her funeral. That is why his hair goes from black to gray. She was picturing him how she last saw him, younger at the orphanage when he dropped her off.
Sorry for the length but this was a confusing movie...if there was one continuous flashback at the end to explain instead of being all artsy and showing bits and pieces it would have been clearer for the audience.

I have no Idea. When there's no more room in hell, The dead will walk the earth...
Basically all the horrifying events that May Britt suffers (with the exception of finding the dead body in the chicken coop) occur only in her mind, just as the presence of her uncle is in her mind. She is disturbed and sexually repressed before she finds the body, and after that she really flies off her rocker. We can assume that she and her uncle did have an incestuous affair years ago and it has warped her mind. At the end, when her uncle shows up for real and sees the image of his niece in the shower, we see that he has also been haunted by the memory of his niece for years just as she had been with him, and they basically share the same type of hallucinatory trauma due to the incest. It's a parallel between the hallucination she has about him breaking in on her in the shower and him seeing her in the shower. Also, the fact that she imagines being attacked by the rapist while in the shower adds more to puzzle, and we can conclude that the incest between them occurred in the shower. Great psychological horror film that makes the viewer use their imagination to fill in the blanks.

She imagined all of it and wound up committing suicide because paranoia got the best of her.

There was NOT an incestuous relationship with her uncle in the common sense of the word because the sheriff said she died a virgin. Of course there could be other meanings of the word but not that way.
shareInteresting little indie horror drama, but, yeah, the ending confused the heck out of me, too. Might need to see it again. I did like some things about it,though.
shareMore questions to further the plot: Is the story of Ingrid that she fails to gain approval? And then, what is approval? Is Ingrid willful to be accepted, or is rejection her fate? It does appear Ingrid has been a castigated character from her conception and her life is a proverbial pitcher plant death trap. She exits by ending her life by shower suicide: but her act may have a occurred inside a suggestive auto-state. She is the victim of an altered conciousness.
