...between Leni and the nun? I missed the beginning of the movie and I would really appreciate if someone could explain that to me!

I don't know for the movie, but in the book the nun was one of Leni's teachers

You're welcome! The book is good, although very long and sometimes boring. Ansichten eines Clowns is much better, IMO
