Greased Lightning

I played an extra in this movie. It was a very memorable occasion which I will never forget. I was assisting in the catering service for the on-location when the director approached me and asked me to be an extra. The entertainers were wonderful. I was inside the pit when Richard and Pam did the scene where she searches him out at the final winning race. Earlier she threatened to leave him when he decided to enter after his near-fatal crash. The kissing scene was done perfectly on the first take. The excitement of hearing the sound of revved-up engines as each shot of the race was filmed was overwhelming. It would take a whole day to position Pryor's car just a few feet at time as he came in for the checkered flag. Of course, the editing room made it look like one last long lap. It's more exhausting to wait between shots than people can imagine. However, everyone was a good sport and Pryor, Grier and Bridges were very cordial. I am not a star-struck person or celebrity guru, but, this experience was a thrill that will remain in my memory forever. Also, I worked full-time on capitol hill in Atlanta. It gave me great pleasure to see Maynard Jackson (Mayor at that time) and Julian Bond working in this film also.
