Sam Hughes vs. John Williams

I like the scene where the two guys are debating over the validity of the GD's movie project. Sam, a nervous and irritated character, complains that the Dead are going to far by filming so many shows. He feels exploited and sees the film as a way for the GD and the production company to make money, at the fans' expense. John Williams, the more level headed and rational one, tells Sam that this is just another form of artistic expression: "a record album on film." He also suggests that it is a film for the fans, and they all will want to see it when it is released.

I find it funny when Sam Hughes mentions that this filmed argument will not be in the movie. But somehow Jerry Garcia and his film editors decided to include it after all.

The thing that struck me as weird was when Sam said he wouldn't even be alive in 5 years (although not too crazy as he seemed pretty irrational) but then John also said he wouldn't be alive in 5 years.

Yeah, but John was crazy as 5hit, man!

To the O.P:

I would be more suprised is Jerry had not put in that scene.

Wonder if Sam got royalties.........

I wouldn't be surprised to find out the "There's no way this will be in the movie" comment was the very reason they included it.
