Rolls

Anyone know what type of Rolls it was? A friend said it was a million dollar Silver Cloud edition but I highly doubt it. No one would wreck a car like that just for a movie.. then again Hollywood is full of..

I think it's a 1950s RR phantom

You'd have to do alot to a bug to make it looks like a Rolls, one thing being a lengthened chassis, another being ALOT of body re-working\custom body-kitting, and finally change the underside a bit. In this film you can see under the stunt car and from what I remember you couldn't see an engine in back so the stunt car probably wasn't a VW.

Pretty sure this is what they meant... saw a few of them on the road back in the day:

According to the Internet Movie Car Data Base it is a 1959 Silver Cloud II.

It was a real Rolls Royce and you can tell by the chassis (frame) when it does the 2-wheel stunt. That is why it was such a shame to tear the car apart. I wonder how much they paid for it? I would have loved to own a 59 Rolls! I use to own a 1:25 scale model of one.

Yea... that was actually the "cheap" Rolls Royce back then. Pretty common car...for a Rolls.

According to Ron Howard on the DVD commentary, they used several vehicles, a combination of Rolls Royces and equivalent Bentleys with Rolls grilles fitted. At least one was a Rolls body on a truck frame, for some of the "off-road" shots.

The "star" car, which was in excellent shape, survived the film fine, but the stunt cars were generally dolled up wrecks. The car destroyed in the end was allegedly a Bentley that didn't even run.
