So Dreyfuss Cleaned Up on the Awards for This?

Don't get me wrong, I like Dreyfuss and even some Neil Simon stuff but after seeing this movie for the first time since the early eighties the first thing that stood out like a sore thumb was how much Dreyfuss absolutely chewed up the scenery in every frame of this movie. I mean wood chipper level chewing too. His lows were schmaltzy and his highs were reminiscent of the cocaine fueled antics of Robin Williams. The rapid-fire back and forth between Dreyfuss and Mason got old quickly as did the clichéd precocious, smart aleck kid. Nuanced this movie ain't. The characters and dialog come hurtling toward you like a freight train to the face right from the start and doesn't stop until you change the channel like I did after about 20 minutes. Man, I think the acting in Star Wars ep II is more nuanced than this dreck. Wait, let me rephrase that. The movie poster for Star Wars ep II is more nuanced than this dreck. They should hand out some Propofol before screening this movie for God’s sake. Lastly, I lied about liking Neil Simon stuff.

Yeah, very well deserved of him winning.

The only other nominee that I think did better was --- Richard Burton in Equus
