He takes my breath away...

i just wanna jump richard dreyfuss in this movie. He is just soo full of energy and life and gosh he is romantic. Usually i don't like the whole romance thing...but he does it in such a fun way that you can't help but get sucked in!

Ahh, me too! I LOVE that roof scene - makes me cry every time!

And now the lovely Richard is married again, I guess we'll have to dream while watching the movie again!

reply

Well.... Duh! How can you NOT love him in this movie? He is pure charisma! lol

reply

"Do I charis you at all"??

You BETCHA do, Richard (sorry, Elliot!)

When I met Richard he was charisma personified. It's not just on screen...

Hey, elbee!

Oh, he's still there. He just looks a bit older, that's all. Trust me!

I wish the thread were still up saying how we met, but alas it's been deleted.

OK, anyone who's read this before has my permission to ignore it...

I met Richard (capital D, capital I, capital VINE!) on the Queen Mary 2 in June last year - he was, I now realise, doing some research for "Poseidon".

We went from NY to Southampton, and then he went back again! I live in the UK and so I had to get off. <sigh> I'd like to say that they had to drag me off, but I didn't chain myself to the rails. I did threaten to, though.

They announced over the PA system that Richard was on board, and I was SOOO excited! I hoped against hope that I'd just bump into him, someplace. Alas, that didn't happen.

They screened The Goodbye Girl (first time I'd seen it) and he introduced it, and was very funny and self depreciating, as always.

I was glad I didn't bump into him after the film - my eyes were a bit red from crying!

Then, about 2 days later, they had a question and answer session with him. There wasn't a spare seat to be had in that theatre.

He was intelligent, funny, witty, candid, sexy, charismatic.... Oh boy!! He's the most charismatic man I 've ever met.

Before he even got onstage I heard him laugh, and thought "yep, that's our Richard!" same laugh as you hear in Jaws, and so many other movies.

As soon as he got onstage (and as soon as he'd finished milking the applause, he's so naughty!) a woman yelled "You're so hot!!"

This may have put a lesser man off, but not Richard, after a short pause, he said "What cabin are you in?!"

I recently found out that his fiancee was on the ship too - I hope she wasn't in the audience! No wonder he wouldn't answer what his "status" was...

After the talk, I had my picture taken with him, and he made me laugh so I look terrible on it, but he looks fantastic! Those eyes are the most amazing eyes I've seen in ages - or possibly ever!

He asked me where I was from and so I told him, (Reading, England) and he said it was posh, cos it has a railroad! I'll invite him over one day and he'll see it's not.... (I wish). Mind you, when he's over here he lives in London, which isn't a million miles off.

My Mum also took some for me, and again he looks gorgeous.

After I'd had my picture taken with him I turned to him and was really girly - I said "thanks - that was lovely"

And he said "Well, thank YOU". And I was staring into those gorgeous blue eyes and I couldn't tear myself away. He is so magnetic. It's NOT just onscreen. You know those moments when the women acting opposite look at him and then can't drag themselves away? That's for real.

But there were so many others waiting in line after me. I have to say that on my picture he was looking straight at the camera (and he bent down, cos I'm a wheelchair user). In some of the others I saw he wasn't looking directly at the camera. I was so lucky. And I got a picture of the man, not the actor....

Oh, and he kissed my cheek. <sigh>

(I bet I'm the only woman he's ever had to bend down to kiss! - sorry, Richard....)

So there ya go!

That is terrific! I've been a huge fan of his ever since Duddy Kravitz.

reply

Oh it was, it was amazing! He's so lovely.

I can't remember when I first realised how gorgeous he is - it was probably "Jaws", though. Living in the UK we don't get to see movies like "Duddy Kravitz" on TV - I don't have cable or Sky, so I have no chance! I hope to get to see it one day, though.

Great story! I had a major crush on him as a teen in the 70s:)

What makes people say "duh" like this all the time? As soon as I see anyone put "duh" in their posting, I close it without reading the rest of it. It's so ironic that lesser intelligent people use that word!

I have always had a crush on him ever since he was in American Graffitti. I always thought he resembled Paul Newman, he has the same eyes. In "Tin Men" I thought him very handsome. In the Goodbye Girl, I think the scene on the roof is absolutely one of the most romantic of his career and he looks awesome! He is not pretty boy handsome and that is why he always appealed to me. I would choose him as he was and is, over Brad Pitt or Tom Cruise any day!

reply

Oh man, he is so cute in "American Graffiti"!

Yeah, there is a bit of a resemblance between him and Paul Newman. But I think Richard's sexier.

I wasn't keen on "Tin Men" at first, it had to grow on me, but yeah, he is very handsome in that. I think I wasn't sure because BB isn't really a very sympathetic character.

Oh the roof scene in "The Goodbye Girl" turns me to jelly, every time!

Nah, you can keep pretty boys! (Mind you, I do love Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom...) It just goes to show, it doesn't matter if you have much hair, if you've got gorgeous eyes, you'll go a long way...

I agree!

reply

Yeah, there is a bit of a resemblance between him and Paul Newman.
I think there's a resemblance between the older Newman and the older Dreyfuss, but not between the two as young men.

reply

its funny you said he resembles paul newman, because, if youve ever seen STAKEOUT, he looks exactly like paul newman in that movie. i think he intentionally tried to look like paul newman. the hair and the moustache and everything...

I was fourteen when I saw this movie and I think it may have been my first adolescent movie crush....I thought he was wonderful.

I watch it today and am glad to say I still agree with that fourteen year old girl. What is it about him? It is hard to name....

I saw him in Mr. Holland's Opus and when the girl fell for him I got why she fell for him and then his character is so dear and leaves her at the bus.....and you like him even more.

He is charming, and funny and most of all confident -- and he steals every darn scene....maybe his strongest competition was Shaw in Jaws....

He is wonderful.

I've always said this is one of THE sexiest movies just because of Dreyfuss. His playfulness and humor with that undercurrent of sexuality? HOT, damnit! Everyone's mentioning the rooftop and that's all good, but I love the bathroom when she's trying to put that cream on her face. And when she walks out, and he's standing in the doorway with his arms to the sides with that "Come back and love me" look? Dang! Who couldn't want THAT??

Heck I had a crush on Dreyfuss when I saw JAWS.

reply

Lol, the bathroom scene is awesome!

I love the part where he says 'Am I as adorable as I think I am?'

YES YOU ARE! Haha..

oh, and the line..

"You're not the only one who can cry rape!"

"It's a Sicilian message. It means Luca Brasi sleeps with the fishes."

this is one of the movies that makes me fall in love with him all over again...

such a fan, am I....:D

Dreyfuss really does light up the screen in this movie...I love the scene on the roof...very romantic.

God... I'm glad I found this thread because I thought it was just me.

I barely saw this movie the other day. It was made before I was born, but I LOVED IT. I can't believe I'd never heard of this movie.

I honestly think this is one of the sexiest characters I've ever seen in any movie. He drove me crazy watching this. Seriously, if this dude showed up at my door needing to live in my apartment (hello perfect fantasy) I probably wouldn't have lasted a night before ripping his clothes off. I have a thing for funny guys who have something unique about them...that quick wit...God it's such a turn on. That, combined with how sweet he is to her and the daughter... My ovaries could have exploded.

THEN--I actually remembered that I used to have a huge crush on Dreyfuss as a kid, too! I forgot because it's been years since I watched the STAKEOUT movies. It's also weird because I was 10 at the time and he was older than my Dad. Still, I remember watching it and thinking "THAT is what I want when I'm older. A guy like that."

reply

I don't really find Richard Dreyfuss attractive, but there really is something about his character in this and the way he played him! As somebody who's been dumped upon before, I often find myself wondering when "my own Elliott Garfield" will show up whenever I watch the film...

my thoughts exactly:)
