Stalking

I think this movie is really about stalking. Andy pursues Jessica relentlessly after finding out her name, address, phone number, and car registration number. He calls her at home repeatedly and blackmails her to have dinner with him. Then he blurts out that he loves her a week later and tries to put moves on her. If this movie were made today she probably would have him arrested. Then the Satanists stalk her, first the guy who gets killed by the horse, then the head Satanist and Aunt Irene, who kidnap her and put her under hypnosis. Later Andy and the exorcist set out at the end of the movie to track her down! This movie should have been called "Obsessive Pursuit."

Good point! I turned to my wife as we were watching this movie and said that in the 60s and early 70s, a woman was flattered when a man stalked her. It meant he was interested.

The Boston Strangler changed all that.

Fear-mongering in the media changed all that.

I think you are a paranoid idiot. It's no wonder why people are afraid to pursue the opposite sex these days with Nazis like you spying on them. I would say people like you are the real stalkers out there.

I liked this movie/pilot and wish they had been able to make the show. I thought the hero was a bit pushy and annoying before they started dating and when they broke up. But when he began searching for her at the end, it was not stalking, but trying to find someone who was in danger.

However, in real life it is troublesome and sometimes threatening when a person won't go away after being repeatedly told to. People have a right not to date someone (or buy their products, convert to their religion, etc.). By modern standards he wastes about 15 minutes of the plot on "romantic" gestures that could get him thrown in jail. Besides that, the story was a great setup for a spooky, weird series.
