This has got to be....

...One of Clint's worst movies. It is SO contrived and unlikely. Can anybody think up a worse Clint Eastwood movie??

reply

Clint has made MANY great movies but I got some more off of the net that were pretty bad:

Space Cowboys
Dead Pool
Firefox

There were s few more listed but I haven't seen them.

This one is terrible.

1. The stupid scenes where they shoot the house till it falls down. US military must have supplied the millions rounds.

2. Cool this house happens to have a escape tunnel just like mine, Whatever.

3. What about the cops shooting the bus up from both sides of the street. Apparently crossfire isn't a problem and shooting the tires would make too much sense for any of 700 cops to figure out.

Bad movies are,
Space Cowboys
Firefox
City Heat
Bronco Billy

I've always thought that The Gauntlet was one of Clint's weaker films. It has a TV movie feel about it at times. Never liked the jazz music either - was all wrong.

I like Firefox though. A film of two halves, the first half being better than the second because it was more Cold War espionage.

reply

Yep, this is ONE of his worst movies (as a director). Clint is one of my fav directors, so I've seen most of his films, except for 6 or 7 that I've yet to watch.

The worst 5 Eastwood movies that I've seen:
Firefox
The Gauntlet
Sudden Impact
Absolute Power
Space Cowboys

Some of Clint's most panned movies that I've yet to see: The Rookie and Bronco Billy. I'll rent or download them. Only for the sake of being a completist.

reply

You didn't list the one with the orangutan? Surely that's was worse than 'Firefox.'

reply

Firefox yea...the rest are all very watchable and even good.

reply

This is one of his best.

reply

I would suggest that The Rookie, City Heat and Pink Cadillac are Eastwood's 'worst movies'. I quite like The Gauntlet - preposterous yes but a lot of fun.

reply

I can't think of a bad Eastwood movie from the 70's and I don't know why Firefox has been labelled one of the worst. I'm interested in Eastwood movies 1968 - 1985.

reply

i'm with you on the Rookie and Pink Cadillac.you didn't mention Ambush at Cimmarron Pass, which even Clint said was lousy.

reply

Of course parts of this movie were overdone (like the cops shooting the room to nothing). But remember back in the 70's, especially out West, cops' hands weren't tied as tight as they are now. These days they have reports and reports to fill out just for pulling their gun out. Shooting someone ties you to a desk for a couple of weeks.

Now, granted the excessive shots fired at the bus and hotel room were overdone but enjoy the movie for what it is. It's not his best nor his worse movie.

I prefer his Dirty Harry movies (the early ones) and his Westerns, like The Outlaw Josey Wales, High Plains Drifter and Hang "em High...

This movie has it flaws but it is guilty pleasure for me. I live in Vegas and love seeing the old valley, back when there Strip was small and downtown, Fremont street area, was the place to be.
Also the I hike the tunnels were the motorcycle chase was filmed, the trail ends up at the Dam and the new Tilman bridge.

Despite being silly and contrived it IS a guilty pleasure for me as well. I wouldn't say I like it but I don't hate it. The OP asked for his worst movies? IMO they are:

CITY HEAT
PINK CADILLAC
THE ROOKIE

I would say just about everything else Clint has done is watchable. Those three aren't.

reply

Heartbreak Ridge was pretty bad.

reply

eastwood's best:

the good the bad and the ugly
heartbreak ridge
unforgiven
the gauntlet
every which way but loose
josey wales
where eagles dare
sudden impact
dirty harry
the enforcer
hang em high
fistful of dollars
bronco billy
million dollar baby

Pink Cadillac
Blood Work
True Crime
The Witches [Le Streghe] (though it's not really a "Clint" film)
Any Which Way You Can

reply

This movie is very entertaining and watchable. A lot of fun. I watch it fairly regularly. Eastwood's done much worse than this. I find some of his more recent acclaimed work that's won a boatload of Oscars rather unwatchable, frankly.

reply

I like how the Gus character has brains and Shockley wants her to use them.

reply

This was a lark for Clint and his squeeze Locke. Nothing more.

Paint Your Wagon was the most horrifying to me, because someone actually thought 2 of the the greatest film tough guys ever, Eastwood and Lee Marvin, would be entertaining, singing and dancing together. That film just can't be unseen....

It's only a movie...
