Warner Home Video currently owns the DVD rights to both "Gathering" movies.

I unsuccessfully tried contacting them by both e-mail and snail mail two years ago; apparently Warner doesn't care about the fact they have an Emmy-winning Christmas classic in their vast library they SHOULD release on DVD. (Explanation: In 1992 Hanna-Barbera was purchased by Turner Entertainment Co. and six years later Turner was purchased by Time Warner, Inc.; hence Warner Bros. now owns both "Gathering" films. In fact, when I last saw it on TV about six years ago the Warner Bros. "WB shield" logo was tacked on after the closing credits of the first "Gathering" movie.)

I can only hope Warner will wake up and think about at least putting the original "Gathering" film on DVD. I do remember seeing the film when it first aired on ABC in 1977 (I was only 15 then), and not only would it bring back nice memories of my "wonder years" again, it was a movie I thoroughly enjoyed.

If "The Gathering" ever does get commercially released on DVD, then it will certainly have an esteemed place in my video library!

I agree. One of the most ignored movie classics. The networks have for some reason or reasons do not broadcast timely holiday, "Christmas", classics. There are many more but that is for another time and debate. I have been seeking a replacement for my original VHS tape which is deteriorating. VHS fact: It does not stand the test of time. I will also try to contact and attempt to convince Warner to produce a DVD of The Gathering and ask others to join our efforts.

I was lucky to find the Gathering on ebay but it's on VHS not DVD. I don't understand why companies like Warner refuse to listen to the public on releasing certain movies.

Another great holiday movie that used to be shown every year and has since stopped for at least 20 years was "Yankee Doodle Dandy" with James Cagney. This came on every 4th of July when I was a kid and always looked forward to it. I know you can buy them on ebay or Amazon now but I remember (before DVD, VHS, etc) when holiday pictures came on a regular tv station. Thank goodness, "The March of the Wooden Soldiers" is still appearing yearly on Thanksgiving Day. These movies made up a big part of my childhood and because they only aired certain times of the year, made them even more special.

Nowadays you can buy or rent them (if available) to be enjoyed anytime but I still miss the anticipation of getting to watch these movies solely on regular tv.
