legitimately available and other thoughts regarding copies

and as a person who has the gathering movies i recorded from tv, i'm happy that it is legitimately released by WB.

as mentioned it was only available as bootleg. unfortunately, that is true. as most of you who have ever tried to contact movie studios or tv networks, if you EVER got any kind of answer then you are far ahead of the crowd. most of us never get a hello, kiss my ..., merry xmas.. NOTHING.
they obviously don't worry about it being bootlegged. if they did, they'd re-release it, i'd think.

many tv movies and big screen movies are out-of-print and goodness knows if they ever will see the light of day; most likely, not. those entities know that money is in present-day, here and now audience and not us from the 'past' ..
so, in the meantime, yesiree, i'll buy a bootleg in a new york second.

people who sell these out-of-print movies are stigmatized by being called 'bootleggers' which is unfortunate. if something is unavailable via legitimate retailers, what recourse does one have, wait on it's release? you'll be in your grave long before most of the OOP titles do get re-released. note my 3rd paragraph. it is the 'counterfeiters' that create the biggest problems. just recently, a huge bust occurred in the seizure of music and movies that were counterfeit copies. they deserve just what they get.

i have been collecting and selling records since the 60's so i do sell OOP items as well as original vinyl of recordings. i don't bootleg nor do i sell counterfeit copies of available recordings. the same holds true with those movies that i have that are not available to the public. i'm happy to help someone find either the vinyl or the movie that one has searched for high and low. i'm in that boat as well, i buy such items if someone has them. case in point, 'A Beachcombers Christmas' is an OOP tv movie that i've looked for and was contacted that i can purchase it. i may purchase it as a 'bootleg' because it's the only way i can get it.

now, back to point, as you have seen, i do have the gathering movies and people have gotten it from me. now that it is released legitimately, i will not provide it as a person can buy it from WB.

that's how this stuff works. you help the collector until it's released.

Glad Warner Home Video finally did release it as a "manufacture-on-demand" title in their "Warner Archive" series a few years ago.

I finally purchased my copy a few weeks ago, but only saw the first Gathering movie because of time constraints. It bought back many nice memories of when I first saw it on ABC in December 1977; I was 15 years old and was midway through my sophomore year at Lansing Catholic High School in Lansing, Michigan.

Now next year I won't have to wonder: "When will The Gathering ever turn up on TV again? Or will Warner Home Video ever release it on DVD?" God willing, in late November 2012 The Gathering and its sequel movie will be the first two Christmas movies I'll see to kick off the season. It was certainly $14.99 well spent!

Best wishes to all for a Happy 2012!
