Original Vs. Remake

For starters, its hard to call the newer one a remake. Yes it has the same plot and all, but things are totally different in the newer one. There is no dad, she isn't into water skiing, shes into music. So really, its hard to compare the two and really call the newer one a remake. I do think the newer one is better though. It was interesting to see Jodie Foster as a kid though.

Are you brain-dead?!? The original is a classic! The situations are more adult dealt with(booze that Annabel is said to have stolen, and the whole kid will be on dope thing, plus numerous others)
Anyone outs the remake(and Lindsey Lohan at that) before this original classic is out of their head and does not know a THING about good movies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am considering nothing less than WORLD DOMINATION!

that's the whole purpose of remaking a material, to bring it into the now and make it more relateable to our times.

reply

exactly. the remake is 10 x better

reply

Can I ask how an original can be cliche

reply

The original film was not cliche. It BECAME cliche because so many other films copied it.

"We can't bury Shelly... she's... she's a friend of ours!"

reply

I did not enjoy watching the remake at all. It was terrible. Original is MUCH better.

reply

Original is better.

reply

The Remake is cliche. Oringinal is way better.

I like the original because I like how she has to do ordinary house work like the laundry and stuff like that. I liked how it showed how hard being a house wife is. I think the old one is more tastefully done.

reply

I found the original to be corny. So much that not too long after they switched bodies I turned the channel and watched montel. Now you know sumthin is boring if you watching montel *that's a boring muthafucca right there.*

Even the version with Shelly Long was gud. I just wasn't too interested in the Jodie Foster version.

The remake was great. I luv Jamie Lee and she was awesome in the role. Not a big Lohan fan and her acting pretty much bit the dust with her trying to portray an adult type figure trapped in a teenagers body. Jaime cracked me up. I think I'm gonna put that movie on right now.

"Its like goin' 2 heaven & findin' God smokin' crack!! Its fuccn' unbelievable!!"

reply

Yea. The original is way better! I mean I like the new one but not as much as the old won. The old one is way better and is a classic! =)

reply

yer i loves the origional better cos foster was in it

reply

Original will always be best

reply

I agree, I liked the original better. It just seemed more realistic. The re-make was good, but the original one by far was a classic and I love how Barbara Harris plays Annabel!

reply

Original. In the original, Annabel's problems are genuine. In the remake, Anna's are plastic-like and bitchy. But they are still great comdies. Iver all I prefer the original and I love the opening song.

reply

Agreed with you. The original is 100% better

reply

the origanal is wayyyyyyyyyy better. i watched the remake twice and i gave it away.

reply

i agree,heartmonger,100%!!!

reply

why can you think that i mind the remake its 1000 better than the original all its better in the new one lindsay lohan its so much better than jodie foster the only movies that jodie are excellent in her paper its on the silence of the lambs and panic room jamie lee curtis is excellent in the new one she is sooo funny dosen't deserve the oscar but the golden globe nomination was good ok please think about that

reply

Could you, like, learn how to punctuate if you are going to put forth your opinion? Your reply makes no sense and takes to long to interpret.
I think that they were both a lot of fun to watch. The second one was much more modern. It was what a typical day is like NOW. The first was a lot of fun to watch because I watched it when I was just a little kid, so nostalgia plays a big part. Each film is set in the times that it was made so each generation gets to enjoy and take part in what every kid/parent wouldn't mind---for just one day...

reply

Definitely the original. Remake tried too hard.

reply

This version of Freaky Friday was also a remake. There have been 3 Freaky Fridays. I thought this one was pretty funny, as was the newest one. The newest one is probably the better of the two, but the mother really cracked me up in this one.. as does Jamie Lee Curtis.

i liked the remake also but what about the remake with Shelley Long? In 1995 or something

reply

I was suprised it took that long to mention that there were three movies. I don't think many people know that. The 2nd remake (1995) was a TV Movie. I have it on tape somewhere. The girl who played Annabelle was the same girl who was in Sleepless in Seattle.

Personally I like the older version because I grew up watching it. I actually think the one with Shelly Long is better than the recent one with Lindsey Lohan.

reply

I think the remake is better

Chewing gum is really gross. Chewing gum I hate the most!

reply

I'm going to rank the three versions in the order that I liked them;

1. 1995 tv version starring Gaby Hoffman, Shelly Long, Andrew Keagan and Marla Sokoloff
2. 2003 - I think eveyone is familiar with this version
3. Original version with Jodie Foster

The reason why I thought the original was the weakest, was because they didn't explain why the mother and daughter could switch places in the first place. Like in the 1995 version it was a magical necklace and in the 2003 version it was a fortune cookie. Oh well, this is just my opinion.

Evan Rachel Wood's #1 Fan.

"Open your eyes!" - Vanilla Sky (2001)

the Original is DISGUSTING and POOR.

I prefer the 1977 original. It had a charm of innocence
and fantasy that the other remakes lack! HEY! It's a
Disney movie folks! That's why the original was so silly!
The 1977 original also sparked my curiousity(and crush)
for Jodie Foster back in high school! Of course,I'm over
my FREAKY FRIDAY(and Jodie Foster)phase now.

reply

Definitely love the original better...have seen it hundreds of times since I was a kid. Still my all time favorite!

reply

The original is the best. The same goes for the parent trap. I really don't know why Disney thinks they have to remake every single movie, espically when the originals have nothing wrong with them.

reply

The original is better cuz in the remake i am too busy being annoyed at anna's over strict mum and how unreasonable she is (who takes there daughters door away ffs?) to enjoy it. Well i do enjoy it to some extent, but the original is just more fun loving.

reply

[deleted]

I am guessing that you don't enjoy many films that where made before.. lets say the late 80's.

It's not nostalgia, it represents a comical view of how life was when the film was made. You have to keep in mind that this is a Disney film. It's sad to think that you youngins are missing out on a lot, just because you can't wrap your minds around old school ways.

With all this being said I did enjoy the remake. It's just silly to compare the two.

reply

This film is the king of all body switch comedies. It still has not been topped IMO.

[deleted]

It depends on how old you are. I am 18, i thought the 2003 one was better. My parents like the older one. It all depends on which you can relate to more. Kids and younger people can relate better to the 2003 one. Both are fairly good tho.

reply

technically, ff 2003 isn't a remake of ff 1976 (or wotever yr) cos there was a 1995 remake with shelley long

reply

i think both of them r good, but i like the one with lindsasy lohan because i can relate to that more

reply

Heck no. Jodie Foster is amazing in the original. It is the first time we see her in a comedy, and she was amazing in it.

"Quid Pro Quo, Doctor"
"If I fail, at least I will have failed my way."-Jodie Foster

reply

I liked the Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis version better

reply

Nah, Jodie looked adorable in the original. Lindsay Lohan is a whore.

"Quid Pro Quo, Doctor"
"If I fail, at least I will have failed my way."-Jodie Foster

reply

jamie lee curtis was awesome in this movie!! i do think, maybe, if linsday lohan couldnt have done a better job, they should have used sum1 differnt. she didn't act like the mom's charecter at all. hoiwever, when jodie foster played the mom, it was much better

reply

[deleted]

Actually it's not hard to call the newer one a remake. The plot is essentially the same. Just because a few of the kid's interests have been updated, it doesn't make it that much different.

The original was much better than the remake, simply because the new Disney remake movies seem to be lacking the charm and charisma the originals had.

reply

but its dated. thats the problem. its not taken seriously enough anymore becuase of that. so i would say probably the remake

The new one was so 'lindsay lohan' typical. Just like Mean Girls, Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen and Just my Luck: a teen flick that was really cringey at times.
I hated the scene when Jamie Lee Curtis is in the cafe talking to the boy, and later when he's shouting out how much he loves her. It was way more realistic in the first one when he just thought she was quite cool and grew up a little crush.
Also, during the gig scene I felt like the movie was for 9 year olds, whereas the water skiing scene in the original was just plain fun!
The original all the way. It was a film for EVERYONE, not just teenage girls.

Have you seen "Wish Upon A Star" with Katherine Heigl and Danielle Harris? Its really great.
