Highly underrated, romantic and action filled.
I haven't seen the classic 1930s version. I hesitate to compare with the 2002 version which was more action-packed and slightly different in plot. But standing by itself, the 1978 THE FOUR FEATHERS is a near-masterpiece, replete with romance, drama, humanity, and action that would satisfy any grown viewer. I believe the hauntingly sad but romantic piano piece played by Ethne and used as background music is what largely lends the movie's moody, sad, yet romantic vibe.
I purchased the dvd as soon as it came out and once in a while I watch it. I do like the 2002 version but as a different movie. It doesn't have the sentimental and romantic vibe as the 1978 version but nonetheless is still entertaining enough to watch and to own the dvd.
