Light years superior to the recent cinematic farce

A MUCH better adaptation and FAR more historically accurate. Although it DOES in fact use sequences taken from the the Ralph Richardson/Korda version, it is still far more satisfying than that arch-dreck by Kapur. Of particualr note is the extremely realistic night attack on the zeriba and the extraordinary care taken in correct uniform and weaponry and tactics. This production DOES suffer from a small budget in places but overall it is as superior to Kapur's PC farce as Branagh's Henry is to Olivier's.

Nihil curo de ista tua stulta superstitione.

Night attack? It didn't seem like it was night? And even if Beau Bridges can't do a perfect British accent, he was great in this role.

I have a taped copy that runs 98 minutes, maltin lists it as 110...nothing seemed to be jarringly missing.

I remember seeing this when it came out and liked it very much. But cannot remember much now about it due to watching the Richardson/Korda version several times in recent years. Would like to get a dvd copy of it. Never saw the 2002 version but friends warned me it was not vey good. For personal reasons I would have preferred an Englishman for Bridges role or at least he should have had a British accent.

This one is better than the '02 version, which I also liked. Perhaps it is because that was the first version of the story I had seen.

This version is definitely propped up by the presence of Jane Seymour and Harry Andrews.

I completely dislike Robert Powell, but he comes across sufficiently weak here.
