Odds of this one getting past the BBFC?

I haven't seen Fight For Your Life yet and was wondering whether it would be passed by the BBFC today. I'm not desperate to see it so I wouldn't mind waiting for a future British DVD release if one was likely.

Thanks for the information.

The region free dvd would probably the way to go, because from what I have gathered from various sources (Shock Horror and See No Evil), the chances of this film ever getting passed by the BBFC are about the same as George W. Bush and Condoleeza Rice getting the Nobel Peace Prize. Apparently, the language is simply too racist to be passed and the film was rejected outright and never re-submitted.

I'd certainly agree with Romper Stomper being much stronger. However, it was also a much more serious look at racism whereas FFYL was pure exploitation. The BBFC website didn't go into details about the rejection. I guess there would be such a small market for the film now that no-one would want to go to the expense of getting it re-submitted.

That's not true, there are a large number of Anchor Bay and Blue Underground releases that are encoded for region 1 only. The same goes for Criterion releases.

This would have no problems with the BBFC today.

Totally agree.

I would think that, like many of the films that were on the Video Nasties list that remain unreleased in the UK, the only reason it isn't available over here still is just that the owner doesn't see it as worthwhile to release it. Would they make much money from releasing this one on DVD? I doubt it, not enough for it to be worth the costs of submitting it to the BBFC, manufacturing the DVD, and advertising etc. I'm not even sure how you would go about marketing this film, who would its target audience be in this day and age?

No big deal for the BBFC I'd say, just not financially viable for the rights holder.

A link off veehd for the film. I watched it today and didnt think it was half bad yeh some of the racial stuff is a bit off but you cant take it serious the delivery by sanderson as a white hillbilly is so over the top he sort of disminishes its shock value. I love veehd as you can see so many of these video nasties uncut and for free.

I'd imagine it would get through pretty much intact. Yes, Kane is an irredeemable racist scumbag, but he's definitely the villain and it doesn't invite any identification with him.

I agree. Kane and all the rest of the characters seemed like people that could easily exist in real life. The characters, dialogue, and story felt so realistic that it at times it felt like I was really watching this going on and not just a movie. It is great for that reason.
