So many mixed feelings about this movie

Yet for some reason, I actually kind of like this movie, and feel the need to defend it, because there are times where I actually prefer this over the original Exorcist. A statement like that may seem like blasphemy(no pun intended) but I actually think that this movie had an interesting concept, just horribly carried out.

I like Richard Burton's dry slow delivery, I know people like to point that out as one of the flaws of the movie, and yes Burton was clearly drunk while filming, but that slow and dry delivery works and blends in well with the pacing and the atmosphere. The surreal visual style and tone is this movie's best strength and IMHO what could have been it's saving grace with a competent director at the helm.

I don't like the original at all. The only thing that I think is impressive about it is that it got away with being so graphic. Otherwise meh. I think it's pretty stupid and not scary at all.

Both 2 and 3 had better ideas although three was executed better. Two was pretty damn rough but I still enjoyed it more than the first one if only for the visuals. The opening is really cool too.

Richard Burton seemed like he was in a different film than everyone else. I didn't realize he was drunk, that explains why his eyes were so glossed over.

But yeah it's a really cool idea just not done well at all. It deserves probably a 4/10 even though I much prefer it to the original. But I like three more than two.
