hi! sorry, i know i posted a message similar to this on the December Boys board but i have 2 know 4 Equus! From what i heard there's a sex scene in this that's supposebly much more graphic than the one in December Boys? i don't know, i read it in a magazine somewhere? so is it true? i would really appreciate it!

The stage play WAS NOT notorious for the actor playing Alan Strang to get erections during the performance. I was in NY at the time and saw Peter Firth, Tom Hulce, Ralph Seymour and Dennis Erdman all play the role. They're actors not adult film stars. The sexuality/sensuality associated with the role goes way beyond any simple erection. The fuss about D. Radcliffe appearing nude in the play is just another example of how uptight we are about sex in this country. There was less fuss when Peter Firth disrobed over thirty years ago. Why does it feel as though we're going backwards in this country.

scottmgm is quite right. I was in the Broadway cast for the first two years of its run and not any of the superb actors playing Alan Strang got erections on stage. I also saw the London production 30 years later with Daniel Radcliffe and the lighting during the seduction scene was so shadow patterned that it was difficult to even see his genitals.

shareI have no idea about the movie cos i havent seen it :( but i saw dan radcliffe in the show (it was sensational by the way) and in that, they slowly took their clothes off, then came together in the middle, embraced a bit, went around, jill lay down on the blocks in the middle, and alan leans over her, thrusts a few times whilst telling dysart he "PUT IT IN HER!", but he soon moves away.
