DVD nearly extinct

I'm not sure if it's out of print and being reissued, or making the jump to Blu-Ray, or what...all I know is that it's next to impossible to obtain the film. The Borders outlets in my state (Ohio) don't even have it in their catelogues, while the FYE I consulted doesn't even have a record of its being on DVD...just laserdisc. The few brand-new copies available on Amazon are far from being reasonably-priced.

What gives? There are far more obscure films with much greater ubiquitousness than this gem. Does anybody know anything? Have any of you experienced similar hardship trying to track it down? My quest now has added zeal.

The DVD I own is region 2 available at only £3.49 through Amazon UK.

Altough it seems very expensive on Amazon.com.

There is an explanation for this, you know.

It can be accessed instantly on Netflix.

I'm waiting for it too. I hope it won't be long. It just HAS TO get on there.

Well, Film4 in the UK has it in heavy rotation just now which is a good thing. :)

I have it at home on DVD. I got it in a Borders store a few years ago. You should at least be able to find a used copy of it on-line somewhere.

"heavy rotation" What does this mean?

For all interested parties, I bit the bullet and shelled out $20 ($23 after S&H) for a brand new, factory-sealed DVD. That's a little steep, but it's approximately the cost of new releases, and I figured this exquisite film (OOP no less) is better than most, if not all, of those. I think it was worth it.

I payed attention to the fluctuating prices for months, and that was the cheapest it went down to. It's currently a bit pricier, but in the same ballpark.

I now face the dilemma of badly wanting to watch the film, but opposed to the opening, and thus "tainting", of it.

It is interesting to note that the original post in May 2010 lamented that the DVD was almost extinct and could not be found in Borders. Now Borders is extinct and the DVD is widely available. As at 20 Jan 2013 it can be bought in Australia for $4.99 (US $5.25). Art triumphs over corporate behemoths!

Did you bother the reading the post you replied to?

A. I ended up buying this nearly 2 years ago

B. If I hadn't, I would hardly considering chartering a flight to Australia as a viable method of obtaining it.

I know that companies in Australia are capable of shipping items overseas so there is no need to 'chater a flight to Australia'.....

Are you aware that countries outside of the USA are quite modern and have access to airplanes as well?

And as a Strine, you should know it is available from Isohunt and all other reputable movie pirates.

Oz is Region 4. Better make sure you have a region 0 DVD player.

You can buy a digital HD copy on amazon for $4.99

I don't know about "widely available", but it's certainly been relatively expensive, as DVDs go. I've had it bookmarked on Amazon for years, and some prices for a new disk have been $90 or more. There are used copies for much less, naturally, but I've found that it's been hard to find, and generally expensive.

I recently got a used one, in perfect condition, on Amazon with no problem.
