Nothing else to say. Loks like this movie is not often seen.

i have just seen it-and it isnt great! In fact i was really disappointed with it.
Comparing it to say pickpocket, au hasard balthazar and a man escaped it comes up short. It is as if Bresson is going through the motions. It only picks up really towrads the end.

I agree. The movie was not great, it was rather disappointing and left no message.

Yeah I just watched it and agree. thought it was slow, bland and incredibly unengaging. half the time it was like no one could be bothered, even the actors. not my cup of tea, shame because A man escaped is utterly superb. maybe I expected a bit too much..

This is his best movie by far. It is unique - even for him it is unique; and the fact that people don't watch it doesn't worry me.

Oh, it definitely left a message. One that it repeatedly clobbered the viewer with, over and over again, until the viewer is fatigued and exhausted and just wants the protagonist to do the deed already. And that's why it was so disappointing. For once, I thought Bresson's ascetic, pure style became overkill when combined with the incredibly bleak subject matter, which proved to be remarkably unsubtle even for Bresson's standards. Whatever existential insights Bresson expertly weaves into his story/direction here lose all meaning for me when the protagonist is as helplessly irritating and insufferable as the one presented here (all those romantic entanglements weren't exactly compelling either) and when the themes of moral, spiritual decay and external destruction (as well as the protagonist's own bleak views) are repetitively communicated to me via a series of bland conversations. Definitely the worst Bresson I've seen.

Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose.

It's a nihilistic and existential film. It's not to be enjoyed but appreciated. Bresson has crafted an amazing piece of cinema about mortality and what it means to be alive.

it could have been one of the best movies ever. Starts and ends great, but a lot of *beep* in the middle hour. Great theme, some great lines, great acting by the lead. Damn you, Bresson! This could have been your best movie. Maybe if there were less characters and more of a story instead of aimlessly walking with small-talk when there were more opportunities for those few great scenes.
