JOHN WATERS: KING OF COMMENTARIES

Although his commentary for Desperate Living was NOT my favorite, I still think his thoughts and memories from his films are sometimes more entertaining than the films themselves.

We'll see who's the filthiest person alive! We'll just see!

Yeah - it's also a bit like he's unsure of how he feels about making this film. From the commentary you get the sense that it wasn't the happiest time for him "I was going thru pot withdrawl" he jokes.

That said - John Waters definately gets my vote for King of the Commentaries. You can be sure that the commentary will be as entertaining as the movie with John Waters - his dvds are pure pleasure.

I've heard some other good commentaries by other directors (love Cronenberg's too - but in a very different way) but his consistantly ROCK...or at least shimmy and shake!

I think he was being a bit careful when it came to Mommie Dearest. He wasn't as ribald as he is on his own DVD's. I agree with the poster who thought it was annoying when it switched from Waters to Liz Renay. One, they were recorded seperately (Seperate Living, anyone?) and it's obvious. Two, Liz just talked mostly about herself. She did give Edie props, but that's about it. What about working with Mink and the others. I would have loved it if Mink also did the commentaries. If anyone deserves to, it's certainly her.

Also, it's annoying on Hairspray when Ricki Lake butts in. Hers was also recorded seperately from Waters, but I loved the joint commentary with Waters and Kathleen Turner.

I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving hysterical naked.
