Simpsons

Wasn't there a Simpsons episode based on this movie? Treehouse of Horror maybe? Anyone remember?

reply

Yeah, it was the one (can't remember exactly which one) where Pierce Brosnan plays the voice of a HAL-esque computer that gets installed in 742 Evergreen Terrace and becomes infatuated with Marge... even to the point of attempting to kill Homer.

I suppose it owes half of it's storyline to Demon Seed, while the other half is from 2001.

Still, it's a good one.

I remember that! I actually saw it way before this film and before 2001 too.

I saw the episode, and soon afterwards read the book...though I didn't actually realise the comparison until I saw the movie.

Though it really is obvious, especially in the way that the computer in The Simpsons took the voice of Pierce Brosnan, and the original one took the voice of Sean Connery...both former James Bond stars.

No Connery, man.

IMDB credits the ...er...uncredited voice of Proetus IV as Rovbert Vaughn who is famous for his role in "The Man From Uncle" (among many others). Naturally his voice recording had some synth alteration fo the role.

I just watched this movie a couple days ago, and Proteus' voice was instantly familiar. For a few scenes I was stuck in "it's whats-his-name, you know, he played the bad guy in Baseket Ball" mode before I finally came up with Robert Vaughn. Was pretty annoyed that there was no Proteus in the credits.

I guess that's the episode where the voice of Matthew Perry says something like "Could I BE! more house than this?".

reply

Yes. It is Treehouse of Horror XII (s13e01).
