Geometric Robot

Wasn't that machine awesome? I thought it was cool when it crushed ole boy.

Yeah, it was cool to.And what happen to the crushed body?

I thought it was cool too. I think he just desposed of the body somewhere. The special effects are of course dated, but decent actually. I liked the SFX.

I thought that was an interesting piece of design, too. It kind of reminded me of the personal shields in the Lynch version of Dune. Its movement was very well done, too. The only part that destroyed the illusion was in the slow-mo shot of it coming up through the kitchen floor: there's a moment right before it cuts when you kind of see it swinging back and forth a bit on whatever cable was pulling it up.

I must heartily agree! The spinning, facile geometric metal cube formation was and is one of the most frightening things I've ever experienced in any film. It's so cold, so implacable, so merciless.....so perfect. The ultimate killing machine and all the more terrifying because it doesn't care if it kills. It has featured prominently in my nightmares since I first saw "Demon Seed" many years ago. It is, without question, one of the most perfectly effective practical effects in the history of film.
