The Deep: Blu-ray

I've had the widescreen DVD of the movie for a few years, but I finally rented the Blu-ray for comparison, and the picture looks even better! Underwater footage thankfully never looks dated, and the colours of Bermuda are ravishing.

So I finally got a good look at the extended scenes once put in for the longer TV version, which I had dim memories of as a kid. The opening prologue of the Goliath sinking: who played the young Adam Coffin? I only recognized Cameron Mitchell playing the ship's captain.

I'm going to get the Blu-ray soon since I just recently got a PS3. I see it for $9.96 at Walmart.

Has anyone compared the 2 Blu-ray releases? They are listed with different aspect ratios: the older 2009 Sony-only release is listed as 2.35:1, while the newer Image Entertainment/Sony release is listed as 1.77:1. The IMDb technical specs lists it as 2.35:1, so I assume that would be the preferred release?

reply

The Image Entertainment Blu Ray release is exactly identical to the 2009 Sony Blu Ray release, including its original 2.35:1 aspect ratio. Sony licensed the title to Image Entertainment. All of the extras that were included on the 2009 Sony release, were ported to the Image release.

The 1.77:1 specs that IMDB and Amazon provided for the 2010 Blu Ray release, are incorrect.
