It's just a TV Movie

It's just a TV movie. Ya, it might be based on a true story, you know there was this kid named Richie, in the USA on Earth and he mighta smoked some dope.

Don't expect anymore from a TV movie.

yes very true.
people are involved in these situations.
real people who have lived real lives.
and the fact that many movies(not just this one0 exploit the tragic events that happened, makes it worse.
and yes..its still going on.
i have done much inner thinking about this case in particular and i do not feel that the father had to kill his son.

god knows i am certain the family were scared but they were also hiding themselves under wraps because it was the very basis of the father's selfishness that made the ending happen like it did.

as for robby bensons acting..welp..you know he not only didnt look like the real richie, but he could never act to start with.(witness his poor performance in the ode to billy joe movie for pure torture!)
for anyone who knew richard in real life, the people portrayed in this stupid film must have been so insulted!
i have said my peace.
if you truly want to get into the details, email richies friend and ask him what went down.
and forget this stupid movie!
maybe read the book..although it too is inaccurate at least the book takes you into the fathers mind and shows you how 'involved' mentally he was with the drug abuse going on with his kid..and he did nothing to stop it.
in a way,a very perverse way,he 'got high" with his son by taping extensive phone calls and logging every move the kid made..yet refused to attend any meetings to help his family.sigh.

I agree. The book is so much better than the movie. Yes, Richie did get involved with drugs and crime. He was no angel, but there were times that he wanted to stop and tried. His family did nothing but enable his drug habit.

If you really would like to know what happened, email me at [email protected]. I was Richies best friend. I know exactly what went down because I knew the whole family and George Diener was not a nice man. I was with Richie 15 minutes before he was killed, and he was way too f--ked up to attack his father.Email me and I'll tell you more.

Hi Kate,
Yes I did know Richie. He was my best friend when his father killed him. Believe me when I tell you that it was not self defense. His father out and out killed him. In the movie and book they told you that he shot him once in the chest. I found out that he emptied his gun into him.He was just a nasty man that couldnt deal with trying to get help for Richie. He did it his own way. He got away with it only because he built a case against his son by tapping the phone and always called the police when we went out.I was pulled over almost every day by the police and constantly harassed by them. If you have any questions please email me at [email protected] Thanks for writing, Lenny

I hope you are really telling the truth. This movie moved me and probably prevented me from using drugs.I'm sorry your friend had to go through this.May he rest in peace.

People who are "way too f--ked up" often do irrational things.

The "way too f--ked up" people should take responsibility for what happens when they are "way too f--ked up."

What a stupid comment...why did you even bother?

I remember this movie it was one of Robbie Benson's best, and no he did a little more then smoke some pot. I last saw this movie in high school in the 70's and it still is one of my favorite movies. if you happen to come across it, do yourself a favor and WATCH IT

If it ain't broke, Don't fix it

So the father empties the gun into his teenage son and calls it self defense, sounds like outright premeditated murder to me. This movie made Richie look like a crazed maniac, making an excuse for his father to shoot him, this movie also didn't do Richie any favors, it looks like a one sided point of view from the father, who got away with murder. This would not happen today with all the forensic science, he would have been locked up for life if not the death penalty.

There are a lot of great TV movies that surpass most theatrical releases. Or do you absurdly think that because a movie is released to theaters this automatically makes it a more worthwhile film? Get real.
