Well no shoot Sherlock .. ..

OF COARSE this is an intense and awesome movie, does NO ONE ELSE know that it's where Alexandre Aja (obviously the raddest new horror director) got the idea for his first masterpiece High Tension ? ?? He HAS repeated it OVER and OVER again and seems to love survival horror flicks, of which this film is an amazing example .. But I am also a little confused as to why NO ONE has released it on DVD yet, there should have been like two special editions out now from Anchor Bay or Blue Underground or someone fun like that .. . I dunno, if you haven't seen it, see it .. . if you can find a VHS copy that is

I remember seeing this on HBO, way back in 1979, when HBO was new (to me anyway) and being ONLY a movie channel. My mom was shocked by it and demanded I turn it off. I did...but I finally saw it one late night after she had gone to bed! It is pretty violent from what I remember. I'd love to see it again!

It's sad some of these horror movies may never see the light of day on proper Region 1 releases. Code Red would have been a perfect company to release this, but seeing as their future doesn't look so bright....

I would completely agree. This lost film is a definitely precursor and probably a huge inspiration to many of the "Torture Rape" horror films in recent years, such as High Tension, Cabin Fever, Hostel, etc. It's a real shame it hasn't been released on DVD.

Having said that, I think a lot of those films get it wrong. They focus on the torture and revenge exclusive. This film had some rather deep character undercurrents going on with the way Vaccaro relates to Stroud in it. Films today rarely want audiences to think that much after they get out of the theater, certainly not horror films. Over 30 years after it's release, people who see this film still discuss it's meaning.

I don't understand the rape - revenge tag Death Weekend has, its more of a survival thriller.

I'd say it's all of the above.
