'Bobby didn't want to come back, mommy.....so he sent me!'
SPOILER ALERT!!!
I guess the consensu here is that everyone liked BOBBY the most as the creepiest and scariest. Over the years some talented directors have come up with classic television horror films that have traumatized us all while growing up. The other must see television horror classic that traumatized legions of American pre-teens and teens is, "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" (1973) And there was no blood or gore in that telefright movie.
Hollywood must agree with you all because there were three versions of BOBBY.
1) 1972 Television series, "Ghost Story", later re-titled to "Circle of Fear".
2) Dead of Night (1977)
3) Trilogy of Terror (1996)
All three versions stayed true to the original story and therefore are all equally successfully frightening. The story reminds one of, "The Monkey's Paw" where the warning is, never wish for something you have no business wishing for...you might get it and regret it in a terrifying way.
We'll all remember the most frightening part of BOBBY.
Bobby's mother, tripped in the darkened two-story mansion-like home, has fallen down the winding stairs and lies stunned at the bottom. The lights have gone out and only glimpses of lightning and the sounds of thunder illuminate the scene. At the top of the dark curving stairs, you see the shadowy figure of Bobby, slowly descending the stairs.
In a sepulchural voice, Bobby mocks his injured mother. Finally he adds, "...but Bobby didn't want to come back, mommy!" in a scary, sarcastic tone. "...so he sent me".
A flash of lightning briefly illuminates the 'face' of Bobby, who turns out to be a horrific demon with the face of a child zombie, sharp teeth and hands raised threateningly like claws.
BOBBY scared everyone, men and women alike. I think it held more horror for women as the underlying storyline introduced a horrifying supernatural malfunction the natural mother-son maternal bond.
