Where'd the tall alien go?

The tall alien makes its laborious way down the ramp then raises its arms.
Then in the blink of an eye it's vanished and the short aliens come down the ramp.
Is this just a continuity mistake?

They were under the gun trying to shoot all these complex effects sequences. So, maybe they didn't have time to include any more shots of him/her. People also tend to ask where the scientists in red suits went after the aliens escort Roy up the gangplank. There's no sign of them when the ship's entrance closes, but (as we saw in The Special Edition), Roy is the only one present inside who witnesses the splendour of the Mother Ship's interior.

Thanks :)

Yeah, I watched the movie just a couple of days ago, and it's the first time I realised that only Roy boarded the ship. Previously I've just assumed the other red-suits had boarded first.

As I understand comments in the trivia section, that long-armed alien puppet was originally scrapped and then brought back to be filmed when something else didn't work out. So I think they simply didn't have a good plan worked out for that scene and shot/edited what they could.

I always though that alien looked like Debbie Reynolds.

I thought that part was hilarious! Especially when those guys take off running after seeing it.

I figure during that part where they take off running it vanishes before their eyes even though we don't see it.

He got drafted by the Denver Nuggets.

In the special features Spielberg talks about a lot of things that didn't work with the aliens. One such thing was a massive effort to puppeteer the aliens. I always thought this might be a remnant of that concept.
