Been watching this movie on the Starz channels. But their version doesn't include at least a couple of scenes, one of which is when Ronnie finds Roy in the shower, trying to deal with his obsessive thoughts. Annoying that they ever show an edited version. Why would they need to, with their commercial-free broadcasts?
There are three cuts of Close Encounters, and the scene you mention is in both the special edition and the director's cut. It could be that Starz is showing the original theatrical cut, which does not contain this scene.
My Top 5 Movies: "Dazed & Confused", "Close Encounters", "Vertigo", "Melancholia", "Rushmore"
The directors cut is the best version. The special edition adds some stuff in but takes the hilarious scene where Roy throws plants through his window out while the Directors cut restores that plus every new scene from the special edition except the shots of the inside of the space ship (which isn't all that necessary)
