This film's been a bit forgotten about.

It courted huge controversy when it came out.

And now it's completely forgotten.

Has any other film been such a flash in the pan?

Shortly after this movie came out in 1977, I remember reading that Joseph Wambaugh (who wrote the book the movie was based on) tried to get his name off the movie's credits, and that the film was a "disgrace".

I had read the book and LOVED it. When I read that Joseph Wambaugh had taken his name off the credits and encouraged people to NOT see it, I at first was willing to comply. That guy is one of my idols. Then when the movie was released, my curiousity got the better of me and I was compelled to see it. MISTAKE. A fantastic book that showed the true humanity of the cops involved and gave reasons behind their brash and often juvenile behavior they engaged in while off duty. The movie simply made the cops appear to be a bunch of ignorant clowns and took all that humanity away from them. I WAS disgusted and disapointed. Had Wambaugh been given more control of how the movie was made, I honestly believe it would have been a classic.

He has expressed disappointment in many of the movie versions of his books and believe me, I'm not one of these literary snobs who always look down my nose at the movie version of books I've liked, but this film was an abomination whereas I've pretty much liked all the rest, most especially "The New Centurions."

Wonderful cast, wasted on trash. Very sad on so many levels.

I just saw 15 minutes of it and i was shocked at how badly it sucked. Embarrassing. This isn't even in the same galaxy as the new centurions .

So many remakes come and go, why isn't this the subject of a remake. C'mon Joe, do it for the fans! PLEASE!

This is contemptible garbage. I can't think of any film more deserving of its obscurity than this one.

It is best forgotten. Many good actors are still regretting having taken part in the travesty.
