I actually liked it!

I rented Cathy's Curse from a mom and pops store in the 80's and I actually like it at the time. Maybe a viewing today would change my mind.

I don't think that Cathy's Curse is anywhere near as bad as the general consensus is. That being said, I think it's pretty much the textbook definition of a mediocre low-budget horror film. Vaguely alright for what it is but instantly forgettable.

I recently saw this as it was part of the chilling classics 50 pack i got.
Classic my ass this is one of the worst films i have seen its so terribly directed and put together, and it isnt scary in the slightest long gone are the days when rats and snakes in films were seen as scary. it also lends heavily from movies like carrie and the exorcist and was obviously made to jump on the band wagon of theese movies.
The acting is passable (just) but this is a film where not alot interesting happens at all and i found myself counting down the minuites till it finnished.

Emperor_Torgo expressed my sentiments towards this movie. This is not a movie to watch while you are sick in bed… this movie is the cure for absolutely nothing! In fact, I was in peak health and I became sick because of the movie. Honestly! Watching this movie made my eyes hurt! …and ringing in my ears!

However, I try to find good things from the worst of movies, and Cathy’s Curse was not the worst I have seen.

As bad as this movie was, it told a story (with a shlurpy accent) and some eerie scenes did creep in… probably by accident. Moments like these don’t excuse the movie, but the scene where Paul was drinking and laughing and Cathy was sitting on his lap got to me. While it appeared that he had suddenly become a child molester, in actuality she was the one who was violating him. We trusted Paul to be a good man who cared for animals and loved his job. He was incapable of hurting any one or anything, and here we see him behaving totally out of character. In this particular scene, we also see that Cathy was never frightened of him and she was manipulating him with her supernatural powers.

On a side note: Their position, with her sitting on his lap was reminiscent of every horror movie that told the tale of the dummy who controlled the ventriloquist... you know what I mean. .

On another side note: Because of the camera angle, I also felt dirty while spying on a drunk and depraved old man with a child on his lap.

Again a side note: That scene was well sustained all the way to the end when they shooed Agatha out of the house by calling her names.

I also noted two things that reminded me of the classic Don’t Look Now http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0069995/. Both instances had nothing to do with the CC except to copy DLN. In one, Cathy walks into the pond, some one screams Cathy is drowning, her father rushes out frantically and chaotically to save his daughter. The 2nd thing that reminded me of Don’t Look Now were the two weird sisters.. and in both movies, one of them happens to be psychic.

Yeah, I also liked it more than I thought I would.
