The castle

I am sure I have seen the castle from this movie in other movies. I believe I have seen it in an episode of the British murder mystery series "Midsummer murders". I am not sure, but I think I have seen it in another movie too. Would somebody happen to know, what that could be?

Btw, when I click on filming locations for Candleshoe, "Midsummer murders" is listed, so that one I must be right about. The other productions listed, I have not seen. So maybe MM IS the only other production I have seen the castle in.
Do somebody remember seeing the same castle in other movies than the ones listed?

reply

I believe the same location is used for the beginning of the 1978 film version of "Death on the Nile", when Lois Chiles' character, Lynette, arrives at the property.

reply

Right, that must be it, thank you very much.

I have seen Death on the Nile (being a big fan of British murder mysteries), that must be where I remember seeing the castle.

You will also see this 'country house' known as Compton Wynyates in "Crossed Swords (1977)" known as "The Prince and the Pauper in the UK, "Carry On Camping (1969)" and "The Black Tent (1956)". An interesting point to note is, the footage used in Carry On Camping is part of the footage shot during the making of The Black Tent. I know that i've seen Compton Wynyates in other movies but cannot remember which ones.

Compton Wynyates is privately owned by an aristocratic family and occupied as a private home and therefore NOT open to visitors. It was, however, briefly open as a tourist attraction to visitors in the late 1970s and was used as a filming location for many productions shot in 1977.

Was it filmed in England?

reply

At least parts of it were. It's definitely not Southern California.

(Additional) Yep, says at the end, "Filmed on location and at Pinewood Studios."

reply

All of you missed the most obvious one; The TV show "Silver Spoons" with Rick Schroeder. In the beginning captions of Silver Spoons, they do a fly over of the mansion and its the same mansion/castle from Candleshoe.

I wouldn't totally rely on IMDB for listing all the films in which a location has appeared - or for any other information for that matter. All the listings are based on users, like you or I, submitting information - with all the potential mistakes and omissions that implies.
