Moving

A very moving film, maybe the best of Ettore Scola.

The best Scola, indeed. And one of the latest peaks of "commedia all'italiana". C'eravamo tanto amati is also my no 1. candidate for best screenplay ever written in the talkies era (Age/Scarpelli) and among my favourites for best comedy of all times. The narrative fluidity of this story defies the laws of gravity. The mix of tragic and comic flows so naturally from the plot that it seems no oh-so-serious analysis will ever get to the bottom of it. Manfredi and Gassman are extraordinary - as usual. The "fade-out" finale will haunt me forever.

This film can also be seen as a sort of sequel for Dino Risi's comedy masterpiece Una Vita difficile (1961).

Woh I'm 23 years old and tonight this was the first time i saw this movie and i've got no words to say how i had a good time. My family is partially from Italy so i have heard plenty of times about C'eravamo tanti amati but this time I think that i've seen a movie that will "count" during the following years.
Please forgive me for my horrible english, I'm french, my friends.
Ciao
