what part was Richard Harries meant to play?

Trivia says that Harries was to be in this, does anybody know what part he was meant to play?
People keep saying how good an actor Harris was but he hardly seemed to be in anything due to being drunk?.

No point in being a great player if you are hardly ever on the pitch.

I didn't know Harris was supposed to be in it but possibly Michael Caine's part of Colonel JOE Vandeleur? Vandeleur was Irish and perhaps this would be the reason. However I doubt he spoke with an Irish accent as he was probably privately educated- his family were landowners in Ireland- and any Irish accent would have disappeared.

Trust me. I know what I'm doing.

You do realise that Harris was a major star in 'The Wild Geese' in 1977?

reply

yes I know that but I think it is sad he never made more films due to drink.
Just watched him in Juggernaut and he was really good.

Could anybody really say that Harris made the best of his talent?
