1970's Miami

The downtown views of Miami make me smile - it was much smaller than today. The First Federal Bank building is seen several times in the closing scenes and at that time was one of the tallest buildings in Florida - at 28 stories, but is now dwarfed by many much larger buidlings. Today's dowtown Miami closely resembles Hong Kong, with a large number of tall buldings built right up to the water's edge. Of course the Orange Bowl has now been replaced by the Miami Marlins stadium.

Unfortunately that's just more development for another Hurricane Andrew family member to destroy. We humans just never learn, do we?

I was hit by Hugo in 1989. Fla. got Andrew shortly afterwards. What did my state do? Put more buildings on the shore.

Not a matter of if another comes, but when!!!!

I know this was off-topic. Still felt it needed saying.

Yes, a few years after this movie the drug money starts to quickly and totally transform Miami Florida.

That's pretty much hitting the nail on its head. I couldn't help but snicker at the South Beach scenery .... Wow, talk about TOTAL transformation.

It's been said that if it weren't for the Cuban Influx, Miami would be The retirement community for Flushing, NY.

Why can't you wretched prey creatures understand that the Universe doesn't owe you anything!?

I had no idea it was already such a total dump by the mid '70s. Nothing like the utter sh**hole it is today, but very much on its way.
