The Verdict - Black Sunday: Good or Bad?

I think its an underrated classic. A few flaws yes, however a strong suspense piece from John Frankenheimer. I think its underrated. Lets have a verdict.

Definitely underrated.

Agreed. I've seen thousands of films, of nearly all conceivable types, and this is one of my top 5 favorites.

reply

Especially in the shadow of 9/11, a very good, if not great action movie.
Maybe not in overall Top 5 favorites, but pretty darn close.

R.I.P. Robert Shaw.

reply

Very good. Under-rated and exciting finale. Shaw & Dern excellent and John Williams score is one of his best, great direction from Frankenheimer.

Keller so sexy too!

reply

Very good.

I finally saw this and I agree, it's very good. Very well paced and suspensful, the last half hour is edge of your seat stuff, even though you know how it has to end. Frankenheimer was a great director with many terrific films to his name

This is an excellent, exciting, and suspensful movie and if anyone has a problem with its "politics" I have only one thing to say - SEPTEMBER 11th!!!

reply

I just watched this again last night. This movie should be remade with Jack Bauer. I'm serious! It's got a great international terrorist plot. The Bruce Dern role can be easily changed to an Afghan or Iraq war veteran. And the Super Bowl finale with the president attending would be a killer climax. The whole scene with the blimp could be exciting as hell with today's effects and cinematography. That is, if it's in the hands of the right people.

An ignorant statement. Whether they are terrorists or not is besides the point but Black September are not motivated by the same goals as Al-Qaeda. Black September where formed as an anti-Israeli and especially anti-Jordanian organisation (the name is a reference to the betrayal of Palestine by Jordan (which was the expulsion of Palestian refugees from Jordanian territory) in the so called 'Black September' of 1970 and they originally assassinated and commited acts against Jordan which is a Muslim and Arabic state incidentslly). Al-Qaeda however are religiously motived, specifically they follow a brand of (heretical Islam) called Wahabbi (much like the USA's friends Saudi Arabia and the "rebels" they are funding in Syria at the moment). The fact you seem to think all Arabs and possibly all Muslims (of which the majority of Turkic, Bosniak (a Slavic group) Iranic (though not the Kurds) and Albanian populations are) share the same political, relgious and cultural values, shows that you are a moron and should probably actually learn about the world before writing moronic statements online.

Absolutely good, but a notch or two below great when you consider Frankenheimer's other works.

reply

The explosions at the end date it but it's still a cracking thriller.
