Last House on Dead End Street

Not sure how many of you have seen that film, but I'd recommend it if you're a fan of Axe and haven't. They're similar in their low-budget gritty feel and surrealist edge (which is stronger in Last House on Dead End St). Definitely in a similar vein though.

I'll have to look for that title. Thanks for the heads up. Are you getting the new AXE restored in HD from Severin Films? It looks AMAZING!

Those two are nothing alike except that they are made on a low-budget and are both generally classified as horror. Last House is more like Ilsa: She Wolf of the SS... minimal story, maximal horror. Like a porno for horror fans.

I felt there was very little horror conveyed in Axe except for perhaps the rape scene (was she underage? is this what qualified this film as a video nasty?). Axe was as bad as Ilsa, and would have been worse if not for the score. Last House is superior to both films and is in itself average.

They don't have much to do with each other, I like both of them, maybe Axe a little bit more.

In regards to budget and film-quality, I can see why you compared them together. But in regards to story, they are nothing alike. To be honest, I feel AXE is the better selection, it's more realistic and not as exploitative as Last House. It swings more towards drama and eerie without stooping to exploitative gore just for the sake of it.

It's still considered horror because of what Lisa does to her captors, but it doesn't present it in a gratuitous way.

The only real weakness to be said against AXE is perhaps it's pacing, editing and some of it's acting. Otherwise, it has some real strong moments that leaves a satisfying and slightly impressed feeling once it's over.
