What were they talkling about when they said Audrey

came back too soon, that she "broke the rules" and that they had to free her and save her soul? It was never explained what it was supposed to mean, and I spent most of the movie thinking about that and trying to figure it out rather than paying attention to what was going on in the story.

Supposedly, when the soul leaves the body, it has to have time to be prepared to enter another body, sort of like when Christians believe in purgatory, where the soul has to be prepared to enter Heaven. Audrey Rose's soul came back before it was prepared, she was only dead for 2 minutes before her soul entered Ivy. Hope that explains it.
