Scrabble game Janice and Ivy play. Has anyone noticed that...

I found this theory on an article.
The scene seems uncomplicated on the surface, but have you noticed that Ivy adds an "s" to Janice's word "laughter"? The child's laughter becomes slaughter, slaughtered by Janice.
It is sometimes said that analyzing the beauty of the subject destroys or kills it. "To photograph people is to violate them, by seeing them as they never see themselves, by having knowledge of them they can never have; it turns people into objects that can be symbolically possessed. Just as the camera is a sublimation of the gun, to photograph is a sublimated murder".
In Audrey Rose, the child has been murdered, metaphorically speaking, by Janice's photography.

I've read about this in the article, "East meets West: Representing the Possessed Child in Frank De Felitta's/Robert Wise's Audrey Rose". It is interesting.

LAUGHTER is an eight letter word meaning one of the players has put down all seven letters in her rack for a 50 point bonus Bingo. I rather suspect it is Ivy's mother who is the Scrabble(TM) shark, since Ivy's use of the "S" to turn LAUGHTER into SLAUGHTER is probably not the best use of her valuable S tile. I don't know what other letters she has, of course, but if I were her, I would be looking to turn SLOB into SLOBS and find a five letter word ending with S that would be worth triple-word points on a conventional Scrabble(TM) board.

The board in the movie is NOT a conventional Scrabble(TM) board. I wonder if they had problems getting the rights. The tiles are Scrabble(TM) tiles, all right.

Marsha Mason propably is in the lead, but with the X, Z and Q not placed down yet, I wouldn't say the game is finished yet. But whoever put down her blank in L_E and got exactly two points for it (and I strongly suspect that is Ivy) is not much of a Scrabble(TM) player.

You people think too much.

Billie Joe Armstrong: That was good explaining, Bill Schneider. You're a good 'splainer.

Umm... you people? Excuse me, but we're discussing the movie. What's wrong with that? The more it gets discussed, the better.

Not necessarily. Someone could have played LAUGH and then someone else could have added TER later.
