Most overrated film??

Personally, I love this movie but am seeing alot of people calling it overrated.

So, just wondering what everyone thinks the most overrated films are?

Mine are-

1. The Shawshank Redemption
2. The English Patient
3. A Clockwork Orange
4. Inception
5. Avatar
6. The English Patient
7. No Country for Old Men
8. Clerks
9. Twilight
10. One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest

This is just my opinion, not trying to challenge anyone here, just thought it'd be interesting to see what yours all are :)

Do guys like "the thing"?
They like it better than no thing.

I definitely think The Shawshank Redemption is overrated. I didn't enjoy Inception at all. The Dark Knight was quite good but not the masterpiece that some people make it out to be. I've never really been able to enjoy Blade Runner, despite a good couple of tries (I'm giving it one more chance before I settle on that opinion though). Star Wars, obviously, I could name a hundred films better than that without even trying.

You must think The English Patient is really overrated.

it is underrated. woody allen in his glory. pure confidence in his skills and superiority. he shoulda quit after this 1

reply

It's definitely not underrated. It's rated appropriately.

Annie Hall is a very good film. It's not for everyone but I think it isAllen's best. But the humor is understated for the most part and requires a bit of subtlety to enjoy. The humor of the cocaine scene is a moment of slapstick that works becasue it runs against the understated nature of the film. But in the end EXPLAINING to someone who doesn't think something is funny WHY it is funny is like explaining why you love someone someone else dislikes. How and why should we have to explain it?

reply

As I get older, Annie Hall is essential viewing. It makes me laugh out loud and really appreciate the people in my life.
For me, most overrated movies?

Maybe it's just that overrated

I enjoyed 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest', but I really can;t see why so many people say it's one of the greatest films ever, I felt that I must have missed something after watching it. One film that I'm surprised hasn't been mentioned is 'Slumdog Millionaire'. That is the definition of overrated.

Annie Hall is the dullest comedy movie ever.

The godfather
Drive
Inception
Breakfast at Tiffany's
Firefly the tv series... People keep saying it would have gone on to great things but I don't see it. They're just sentimental that it got cancelled midseason.

I just watched it for the first time yesterday. No, I'm not a young whippersnapper or anything, I just put watching this movie off for years. Anyways, I loved it. I wouldn't say it's overrated at all.

As for your list, I agree with 1,3,5,and 7. The Shawshank Redemption is just another movie to me; nothing as special as everyone thinks. A Clockwork Orange is the same way, though it's still a well made movie. No Country for Old Men wasn't as good as the book. I actually think Clerks is underrated, as I don't know many people today who heap praise or anything on it. The sequel is overrated crap though. Nobody likes Twilight but teenage girls; that series gets crap reviews and isn't really "rated" in the first place.
