Where does Jonathan carry out his first assassination in the book?

In the American Friend Jonathan carries out his first assassination in an underground station. In The Talented Mr Ripley he does it in the insect house at the zoo. But where does the assassination take place in the book?

The American Friend is based on Ripley's Game not The Talented Mr Ripley.... unless I misunderstood your question.
