Beware this DVD release!

I have seen the two-part mini-series whenever it has been shown on TV and I was pleased to find a DVD release on the Universal/Studio Canal label. I must admit I was a little concerned to see a straight 2 hour running time, but went ahead and bought it.

Most of the original is here but notable scenes have been trimmed. I particularly remember a short scene where Wilbur Peterson mentions Hughes's obsessive hand-washing to Noah Dietrich, and a scene with Hughes hiding under his bed in Las Vegas during an A-bomb test. The Glomar Explorer story has been entirely cut.

In truth, the mini-series was always a potted biography (Hughes makes "Hell's Angels", breaks air speed record, then dates Billie Dove/Ginger Rogers/Katharine Hepburn, then flies round the world, buys TWA, sells TWA) but this feels like an extended trailer. At least Tommy Lee Jones's breakthrough performance survives reasonably well

It is good. Still a good movie but they edited way too much of it. The VHS tape I have has all the cut and trimmed scenes. I wonder why ?
Then Again it's a Tommy Lee Jones Classic I should just sit back hit play relax and enjoy.

However I do have a question has anybody gotten the DVD Of THE EXECUTIONER'SONG ?
And has any thing been cut from that or trimmed ? I want to buy the DVD but I'm kinda wondering if I should or just keep my old vhs copy running.
