I haven't seen this yet, so i can't answer your question. I really wish this were commercially available though, I'm dying to watch it.

Thanks. I read about it in Fortean Times in 1998 and have been curious ever since. I was lucky enough to find the book that was published about the same time. Pretty good actually and worth tracking down.

I just found out thanks to a friend that it can be downloaded by means op a program like eDonkey. I will try it and will let you know if it works. Just don't get your hopes up too high :-)

PS: Nice username. And a good movie to boot.

I have only just stumbled across this programme, I remember watching the show in 1977 (at the age of 10) and it scared the bejesus out of me. I also remember going to bed immediately after it had aired and missed the disclaimer that it was a hoax. Thankfully my dad came in and told me after a few minutes.

Even so it affected me to the extent that I still remember watching the show after 30 years but could not have told you what it was called.

I haven't watched the online version yet but I'm looking forward to it to see if it as I remember.

Stumbled over this in book form in a charity shop a few years ago. Totally bought into its ruse and beleived what i read. Found out later that it was a hoax by Anglia tv that aired a month or two after it was supposed to (Initially on April 1st).
On watching it, on the fuzzy real player version from the thule website, its easy to see how many people could have been fooled - and the fact still remains that they were talking about global warming as a serious problem, years before it was raised as a serious issue. Again science fiction illustrates something factual that we should pay attention to.
Great Brian Eno score too.

Hi there,

Just to let you know that Alternative 3 will be available to own on DVD from the 8th October (the disk available is region 0, although most sites are incorrectly listing this as region 2)

the disk also includes a new 30 minute featurette with the creative team who revisit the show and sort fact from fiction.

I've always thought it was quite well done and very entertaining. I knew the story was bogus before I watched it though. If I had seen the original broadcast it might have fooled me for a while, at least until the credits rolled. The female cast members were all quite attractive, much more so than one would expect in real life, unless the project was being supervised by dirty old men. It also appeared that the controllers of the Mars probe were having real time communication with the probe which would, of course, be impossible. The map of the far side of the moon with the U.S. and U.S.S.R. flags made me wonder how the producers of the documentary would have found out the locations of the American and Russian bases there. The astronaut who accidentally stumbled upon evidence of a secret moon base would also have had to have accidentally landed on the far side of the moon as well. And why wouldn't he have simply been co-opted into the project? Same for the astronomer. They both had skills which would have been useful in such a program. Finally, the widespread disappearances of heretofore reliable and uniquely talented individuals would surely have brought about equally widespread police inquiries long before a documentary film crew broke the story to the public.
