They both have David Colin Jr. in them (playing different parts). That seems to be the only 'sequeling'. Not that I've seen the first one.

Yes, that is the only thing the films have in common except the fact that they deal with supernatural themes. Amok Train (AKA Beyond the Door III) has even less in common. The director of the first film is the executive producer so I guess they decided to call it a sequel because of that. Even though they are sequels in name only and aren't even referred to as Beyond the Door II and Beyond the Door III in their DVD releases, I still feel guilty if I watch the first and don't watch the other two. Though this time I think I may have to get over that guilt because I don't really like Part III all that much and don't feel like watching it.

It is not a sequel. but they share a common theme about being possessed. Most Italian films are re-named for the American market. The movie was titled, "Schock" in Italy where it was made, but it was re-named "Beyond the Door II" for the American market. I guess there are a few reasons it was renamed for the U.S. The first movie, "Beyond the Door" was sucessful and had name recognition so they probably renamed it for cash value. The little boy actor also was in the first movie "Beyond the Door" so there's a connection. He gets possessed by the spirit of his father. To it's credit, the movie does focus on the key lock on the door to the cellar several times, so it is kind of appropriate in a way, because there really is a secret "beyond the door."
