Comparisons with Journey's End

This is based on the WW1 play Journey's End by RC Sherrif.

I've never seen the play so wondered how it compares with Aces High.

Presumably Journey's End all takes place in the officers' mess? As I recall the play is not about the RFC but about an infantry or guards regiment in a trench.

This is based upon RC Sherrif's Journey's End.
If you can , get a copy of the 1931 James Wale film which is very good.
James Wale, like Sherrif, served in the trenches in the First World War being captured.
He subsequently made his name with Frankenstein and was the subject of the film Gods and Monsters.

Certainly for a lot of the flying sequences.
Cecil Lewis, the author of `Saggitarius Rising` flew with the real 56 Squadron beside British flyers like Ball and McCudden during the period the film covers.

War In The Air, Being The Story Of The Part Played In The Great War By The Royal Air Force. Volume Two by H. A. Jones has some rather ripping derring-do and a surprising amount of technical detail considering it covers 1916. There's a lot more thought and planning than I expected.
