best ww1 aviation film

this film represents the horror of being a pilot during ww1. its almost the all quiet on the western front of the air, in that it shows the idealistic young soldiers being schooled in the ways of death. Malcolm Mcdowell is great so is plummer and the rest, unlike flyboys the script was excellent yet heartbreaking, as it should be. im not much of a fan of remakes but if they had remade this instead of flyboys, and had modernized action sequences it would have been amazing, but it probably would have been filled with hollywood cheese anyway

The best film about WWI air combat is `The Blue Max` (1966) by a long margin.
This one deserves at least an honorable mention though, some of the footage used came from the older film.
But then they were working with a much smaller budget!

Agree. Much unsaid... you can almost see the thinking

This is pretty good, but "The Blue Max" (1966) is easily the best WW1 air-fighting I've seen; no other comes close.
