Interesting(?) observation

The conventional wisdom about this movie is that Pinky "steals" Millie's personality.

But it occurs to me that she doesn't exactly steal it... more like, she becomes what Millie wants to be. She improves upon it. Pinky actually becomes the popular, fun-loving gal that Millie delusionally imagines herself to be.

Thoughts? What do you all think? Does this affect your "interpretation" of the film?

Also, let's get some more "Memorable Quotes" up there!

Yes, it's number one, it's Top of the Pops!

Three Women has LOTS of great quotes! I think my favorite is when Millie tells Pinky "You don't drink, you don't smoke, you don't do ANYTHING you're supposed to do!" LOL

Mrs Rose: "Sure doesn't look like Texas."

Pinky: "They're not my parents. I've never seen 'em before..."

reply

"That's Dirty Girtie! Pull her bow and she'll say hello".

You are absolutely right. She becomes exactly what Millie thinks she(Millie) is. A great and innovative concept.

So many quotes from this movie...I don't know where to begin?

Millie walking down the steps to the pool in her yellow, hooded getup

Neighbor chick: "Don't look now, thoroughly modern Millie making her grand entrance"

OR

Millie: "It's .40cents for beer and I leave them a dime tip..."

It's more likely that they have formed a family, and as Altman claimed, have buried Edgar under the tires. The film is a much more striaghtforward portrait of life in a California dustbowl community than the director's trickery might make you think; drenched in symbolism with heavy references to Persona. The three women in the film are set up rather obviously and written broadly into the definitions of Mother, Maiden, and Crone in order to leave much of the underlying meanings open to interpretation, but it's really a picture about the force of dreams, and nothing concrete in the film supports any hard theory that you may want to apply to it, and Altman himself admitted he wasn't sure what it meant.

Throw out your gold teeth and see how they roll.
