My, how she grew!

When Tabitha first appeared on "Bewitched", she was four years younger than me. When she got her own show, I was a senior in high school, yet Tabitha had graduated from college and was now working as a weather girl on TV. I would think witches would age slower than we mortals, or Tabitha did some little hocus-pocus to get ahead in school.

The idea was good but it was done badly. Tabitha should have been like Sabrina in which she would have started out in high school and learning how to use her powers. Of course Elizabeth Montgomery and Dick Sergeant would have had to make cameos as well as Endora and Maurice. If they could not be in the show, then they could have had Tabitha in college and that way the absense of Samantha and Darrin could be explained.

Agnes Moorehead (Endora) had died by the time this series had hit the air.

I didn't know that Agnes Moorhead had died. She was great as Endora. BTW, didn't you like her better than Darrin's mom who was opiniated and judgmental?

reply

To be honest, I couldn't tell you anything about Darrin's mother to save my life. I remembered what she looked like, but I don't remember anything about the way she was portrayed. And you didn't think that Endora was opinionated and judgmental? The woman cast every spell on Darrin known to witchkind just because she could. However, I WAS surprised looking at reruns at how I didn't find Moorehead as ugly as I thought when I was younger. Maybe it's because I'm older now myself and am closer to Ms. Moorehead's age than I was then (oh, my goodness! Has it really been 39 years sinced "Bewitched" hit the air?). However, I thought she looked a lot more attractive in the color episodes than the B&W ones.

Just a note, caught it last night, hadn't seen this since it went off! Wow that was 25 years ago. Anyway, it's really cute and it was nice to see Lisa and Robert Urich so young...

Yes, it was weird that her parents were never in it. And yes, Agnes had died a few years earlier, she would've been great.

reply

Maybe if they had Tibitha been in high school like Sabrina the Teenage Witch and not already an adult.

Elizabeth Montgomery had tired of being Samantha so she would not have wanted to do a cameo and the actress who played Endora had passed on already.

As for the mothers both Darrin's mom and Samantha's were a handful but I found Darrin's more annoying. Loved their dads though.

one problem with that idea
darin an samatha forbid tabatha from getting any magic education

Um, OP, you don't seem to realize the actress who played Tabitha on "Bewitched" is not the same actress who starred in the series "Tabitha"

Erin Murphy played little Tabitha on the TV series "Bewitched". But it was Lisa Hartman who played Tabitha on the TV series "Tabitha". Same character, different actress.

reply

Wow, it's been a while since I looked at this post when I originally put it up. I was aware that there was a different actress playing Tabitha back when the series came out. However, it still doesn't explain how Tabitha was four years younger than me as a child and is now at least five older as an adult.

Here I am, stuck in the middle with you!

My take on it was that we werent suppose to take it by the literal passing of yrs, that we are to assume a lot of yrs have passed such as in a movie where a character ages in 2 hrs from 10 to 20 yrs or more. Soap operas age children very quickly. In just 2 yrs a child is now a grown adult so I didnt go by the real number of yrs that had passed on Bewitched. I just assumed that the new series was about Tabitha after she had got grown. So many people question and make that comment about the real age of Erin Murphy but I dont get why no one seems to think about this theory of the passage of time.

reply

Because ABC couldn't wait another 10 years or so with this Idea!

No I don't think it's you that gets the original post. It was just a comment about what they did to the character. It's what they call in the soap opera world, "Rapidly aging syndrome". They do it all the time. Cast an older and more mature actress even though the timeline doesn't fit.

Remember the magic words: "Please", "Thank you" and "Step off bitch!"

reply

Yea, realistically she would have been 12 years old.

reply

Adam's aging was even more rapid. Not only was he not 7 (as he should have been in 1976), he was now Tabitha's older brother.

Nick: Who was that?
Nora: Oh, you wouldn't know them, darling. They're respectable.
