Jody's late dad probably made him gay

I watched some early eps of this show on DVD recently and I saw that Burt in a struggle with Jody's deadly father killed the latter. Well, that would tend to mean Jody was pretty isolated from his biological dad and a webpage called mygenes.co.nz shows that gays are extremely often veterans of bad or non-existent parental realtionships (plus they have something called neuroplasticity)and this causes them to be gay. Danny, being much fiercer than Jody, was probably their mean father's favorite child so he presumably received more family love than Jody did (even Mary seems to be way crazier about Danny than Jody).
PS I do not know how much of this the writers intended but it is nearly impossible the writers knew about neuroplasticity back in '77.

How many "made him gay" posts are you going to make? Are you sure you're not gay?

reply

I think you're putting way too much thought into this. It was just a television show!

webpage called mygenes.co.nz
Yeah, that seems legit. . .

Not real bright, are you?

Made him gay? Are you really that ignorant that you think someone or something can make a person gay? Tell you what. Let's meet up and I'll turn you gay.

I'm no expert, but I would be inclined to believe that the events of someone's life will affect his or her sexuality. As for something making him gay, there are only two small problems with that theory: 1) he's not a real person and the writers never gave any clue that this was the case; and 2) this would have to assume that he was heterosexual to begin with, but there's no indication of that, either.

No, the events in a person's life can't affect a person's sexuality. It's something you're born with and permanent.

reply

I agree with you that it's something that you're born with, but I do think your experiences shape your sexuality to some extent. I don't believe it's possible to "make him gay" or that the writers were going for that situation.

Actually experts agree that certain things that happen in childhood can contribute to a person's sexual identity(not just gay or strait) but in other ways as well. There is no current proof that one is born gay. Scientists have tried to pin point a gay gene, but have failed to do so. Either way I don't think it really matters. As for it always being permanent. I don't know. Everyone thinks it's so weird that in the last season of Soap Jody questioned his sexuality. These days shows have shown hetrosexual people questioning their sexuality as late as their 40s and 50s so whose to say. I've known people that think sexuality is fluid and not set in stone. I can't say that's the case for me, but again who knows. As for Jody's dad making him gay because he was mean or belittled him. I don't recall Soap ever expressing any such thing. Jody's day was a mobster, but as I recall that is something Danny didn't find out until he was older and Mary and Jody didn't know. Mary told Bert she loved Danny and Jody's father very much which tells me he was probably good to his family. I also don't think Mary favored Danny. In fact at times I thought she was more protective of Jody. Really I don't think anyone actually knows what makes someone gay. I doubt it was because his dad wasn't nice to him.

You are putting way too much into a fictional show about fake people.

reply

You can't "make someone gay" because if it could be done I'd already have converted Hugh Jackman, Ryan Reynolds and Gerard Butler.

To b_brandon49, who i shall refer to fondly in the future as "dumbass"

No one makes someone else gay. It looks like you went on and on but frankly, I don't care to read the rantings of a homophobic wack job. BTW, your big Scrabble word is defined only as "an umbrella term that describes lasting change to the brain throughout an animal's life course". So you are talking about a very broad term and trying to apply it to what, why people are gay or not?? and gee yes, people knew that word existed in the 1970s. We had a man on the Moon in 1969, did you hear?

Have a nice day, and hey, join the 21st century if you get a chance. And why the "PS"? Did you think you were just writing to one person?

Jodie. No y.
