Jessica Tate had 4 children?

During episode 4, Jessica kept saying that she had 4 children. Who was the fourth child?

reply

Seems like I remember that, but over 30 years later, can't recall it now. It seems like we heard that and did count four kids.

reply

Who was the fourth? I count Corinne (1), Eunice (2) and Billy (3). So who is the fourth?

reply

Can't recall now, its been so long, but you said episode 4 and that was what rang the bell in my head. Seems like we caught that then and could recall who the kids were she was referring to.

But over thirty years later now, I havent a clue. Only reason I came to this board was to learn who Martin Short's late wife had been on this show. Annie was her name, She was Eunice's bridesmaid and she married Chester, but I don't recall her at all.

I want to say the fourth child received a visit from Jessica and that involved alot of her nonsense or something, but for the life of me, I cant think of who it might have been right now, or what became of this kid.

reply

Perhaps the fourth child died early on.

i just listened to the whole episode on netflix and didn't hear that. The episode started with benson deciding to stop setting he tab;e for breakfast becaue the tates never sat down for it anyway. denis philips was revealed to be jody's lover. danny started trying to kill burt. I didn't hear about 4 children.

reply

I remember her saying she had four children. Maybe it was a line slip up or it could be that the writers intended to reveal a fourth Tate child but never got around to it.

reply

I am re-watching that episode now. It may have been from a different season than 1. I can't remember now.

reply

You sure it wasn't Mary that said 4 children? She had Chuck, Danny, Jodie, and Peter. Maybe the writers confused the sisters. Easy to do in only the 4th episode. Jessica definitely did not have 4 children.

reply

It'll be coming up in a few weeks on Antenna TV (last night was the first ep again) I'm curious why that would come up, YEP Jess definitely only had the 3 children.

reply

It was either Chester, Benson, Dutch or Tim

Mary started out the series with two kids. Chuck and Peter were Burt's kids from before he met Mary.

reply

Chuck (and Bob) and Peter were her step-children.

reply

Peter and Chuck are Mary's estranged stepkids whom she didn't meet until years later; I doubt they would technically count as "hers."

reply

Mary had two children, Danny and Jody, and Burt had two children, Peter and Chuck. Peter died after Chester knocked a flower pot on his head.

Jessica had three children, Billy and Eunice who are her children with Chester, and Corrine who is later revealed to be Jessica and Chester's neice.

I've just been watching season 3, and in episode 16 Jessica and Corinne are drinking coffee in the Tate kitchen. Corinne said how difficult it is to date with a child - that men seem to run the other way. Jessica then replies 'Tell me about it - I've had 4', and Corinne then says, 'but, Ma - all of your children are grown up now.'

Eunice and Billy are both hers, and Corinne was adopted, meaning there is still one unaccounted for. I've read the producers had a 5-season plot line in mind, so perhaps we would have seen her 4th child in S5 if the show has survived beyond S4.

The main thing, of course, is that you're not crazy.

reply

Well that's good news. I was worried there for a moment. LOL

I think they would have done something with a fourth child if they had not cancelled it. I hated the cancellation. The way it ended was stupid. If they wanted to cancel it, they should have let them wrap it up better.

I just saw an ep. where she said that. It was during season 3. Corrine was complaining about it being hard to have a social life(i.e. get laid)when you have a baby. Jessica said "I know I have four of them."
I think it might have been the ep where Eunice left.

reply

Thanks for narrowing it down. I have all 4 seasons in MP4 form so I was able to find it once I had some sort of reference point.

It's in Season 03 Episode 16. Corrine is in the kitchen making lunch for her baby when Jessica walks in and they chat. Corrine complains that it's difficult dating with a kid and Jessica says she knows because she has "4", Corrine then tells her that it's different because Jessica's children are all grown. Billy then enters to say how sick of Leslie he has become.

It could have been a slip of the tongue, a plot twist they never visited, or her father that was like a child but certainly then not in the "all grown up" category.

reply

Perhaps she was adding in hew husband in the group. not as an actual child but a comment that he acts like a child?

reply

Well Happy Days and Family Matters both introduced a sibling that later disappeared without any explanation. Why not mention a character that is never shown?
