I have read the book about Secret Army but I dont recall it saying that the story is based on real people... but I agree that the cats and fish thing is so weird that it may have had a basis in real life. Wonder if they were the inspiration for Fairfax and Carstairs (British airmen)in 'Allo 'Allo? Totally silly and incomprehensible. In an episode of Foyle's War it was implied that Russian soldiers who had been captured, and forced to fight in the German forces and then captured by the Allies, would be executed upon being repatriated to Russia. Whereas in the SA ep. I understood that the Russian airmen had escaped capture?? Were the Russians that thick as to not make the distinction?
